Our Story

St. George’s Church is an evangelical Anglican church.

We aim to be led by the Holy Spirit in putting Jesus at the centre of all our teaching and worship and to be faithful to the study and teaching of the Bible as God’s Word. Members are encouraged to use their spiritual gifts for the building up of God’s family and to grow in their faith, becoming faithful, confident and joyful in believing, in order to share the love of God with others. God’s love is for everyone and all are welcome here.

Our vision is to reach out to all people in the parish, through words and action, and to draw them to faith in Christ and a life of discipleship which reflects the kingdom of God on earth. It is recognised that people are at different stages on their spiritual journeys and have a variety of preferred worship and learning styles and St. George’s is renowned for its openness in welcoming people from all backgrounds. We would describe our churchmanship as varied and our theology as evangelical.

Our History

The church itself was built in the 1960’s, though there has been a worshipping community on the site for much longer and the current building was borne out of the prayers & vision of that community. As well as the main worship space and vestry, the church has toilets, a kitchen space and two small rooms, one of which is used as a Prayer Room. To the front there is a grassed area with a memorial garden where ashes are sometimes interred but there is no graveyard. There is a small car park and an enclosed grassed play area used almost every weekday during term time by Swallows Nest Preschool.
